Drink and Draw on Oct 22nd at The Graham

Dope. Dope dope dope. I had a great time drawing a naked hot girl in a bar while drinks. It was really fun. We had like 20 odd people show up, maybe 30 in total coming through, including staff and the regulars. That’s honestly incredible turn out for a Monday night.

I really want to translate people into 444[Show+Tell].

So, we gathered in the Graham Bar for another event. This was a drink and draw. I spent about $60 on new supplies. Pencils and paper mostly. I could have used more of the smaller sheets as they give some less space and make it more accessible.

We then spend 2 and a half hours drawing different poses of the model, totally making 5 or 6 takes.

I had an incredible time. Every pose was a new challenge. It was exciting and fun to draw a human body. Plus, when you got bored, Amanda was great to admire. It generally made for an enjoyable and novel experience.

Peter spun a little bit. The sound was a little low, and it was hard to necessarily concentrate on the music. Also, in-between the drawing, Jared needed to talk, which combated with music.

My hope is that next time we will have better coordination, so to give Peter some free airtime in between which might help concentration. An easel would help Jared demonstrate his points more broadly.

We definitely got a little taxed towards the end. Amanda did 6 poses, maybe 7. Towards that last one or two, most of the people had left. We revitalized with the regulars, which filled the space.

I’m really glad I threw it together. Dan was an excellent help. Jared and Amanda brought plenty of friends to round it out, and I even got two or three people. The bar patrons joining in was a huge surprise and I was really glad they could contribute.

Everyone seemed to have a good time and many people asked to know about future events. This is incredible promising, as I’ve already had such wonderful reception from the Open Mic as well. I do sincerely believe I can build on this momentum. What exactly, I don’t know. But clout, inertia, regular events, and more art all seem like amazing things.

Definitely need an email list…

I’m grateful for the talented friends I have, Jared, Amanda, Dan, and Peter. They really were the pieces that made the event, and I needed them to have this happen. I’m also proud to give them space and time to do awesome things, sharing their art and selves with a very receptive and engaged audience. That’s a strong driving motivation for me, to help them be their best artist selves.

As for the next one, an easel for Jared, more charcoal, maybe a second model to switch it up, and better timing? Advertise for 6, start at 7? Have a longer break after a few. Maybe open some dancing space? Have Peter spin throughout the bar?

Honestly though, for a first one, super successful. Excited to be doing more!

444[Show+Tell] the 4th open mic, next Saturday, November 17th, 6:30pm to late, late. Be prepared to dance. Be excited to be amazed. It’s a great party.
